SINGAPORE (Botanic Garden)

The tiny nation-state of Singapore is a powerhouse in Southeast Asia.  It has existed for nearly 2,000 years, and its geographical importance as a place of international trade continues.  Additionally, it is home to branches of all the global financial titans, as well as manufacturing, oil production and tourism.  It is uniformly spotless, the downtown area gleams, and it’s airport has been voted the best on the planet for about 25 years, and for good reason.  The population is diverse, and genuine ethnic foods from China, India and other regions are available everywhere.  Health care is second to none.

As you might imagine, the place is not cheap.  However, their botanic garden is not only fantastic, but it is free as well.  Save for the world-class orchid garden, which fanciers of this exotic beauty can enter for a reasonable fee, the 200 acres cost nothing to roam, to meditate, and revel in.  It has been operating for nearly 200 years, and so, like everything else in Singapore, they have got this down.  Palm gardens, bonsai displays, frangipani forests and more await you.  Although inside the bustling city, the air in the garden is perfumed with the thousands of flowers blooming at every turn.

The gardens are a goldmine of loveliness, but I found it hard to do the place justice with my camera.  I decided these few abstract black and white  images best captured the feeling I had when in this paradise.  Enjoy!
