SANTIAGO, CHILE

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE PHOTOS

I finally managed to bring my camera with me into the city.  A quick trip downtown with no particular objective in mind, I was taken by the city’s lovely colonial architecture blending in with modern skyscrapers.  And always with the snow capped Andes looming in the east.  This aspect reminds me of other cities located near big mountains, like Vancouver or even Salt Lake City.

Santiago’s population of just over 5 million makes for a bustling place, with sidewalk cafes, bistros, parks galore, and a progressive arts scene.  Hip, expensive little neighborhoods seem much like those in lower Manhattan, with a distinct Latin American vibe.

Our refuge in the foothills is an escape from the hustle, noise and crime that the city can bring, but visits like this are now calendared as an outing to take each month.
